RegistertoVoteON.ca is owned and operated by Elections Ontario. These Terms of Use apply to all websites, services, and applications owned and operated by Elections Ontario (collectively known as “sites”), including:
- the Elections Ontario website (elections.on.ca), and
- the Register to Vote website (RegistertoVoteON.ca).
These sites are for your personal use only.
Some of Elections Ontario’s sites, services, and applications may be subject to additional terms and conditions. By accessing or using our sites, services, and applications, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Use and all related policies and guidelines, including our Privacy Policy, without change. If you do not agree to be bound by these Terms of Use, do not use or access our sites and services.
The words “Elections Ontario”, “we”, “us” or “our”, mean His Majesty the King in right of Ontario, as represented by the Chief Electoral Officer of Ontario.
Our sites and the services and applications made available through these sites, are for personal use only. By accessing or using our sites, you must not:
- use these sites in violation of any law, rule or regulation;
- interfere with or disrupt these sites or any of our computer systems, servers, networks, databases, software, hardware or equipment used by or for these sites, including but not limited to placing an unreasonable load on the sites or services (i.e., overloading, initiating, propagating, participating, directing or attempting any “denial of service” attacks, “spamming”, “crashing”, “flooding” or “mail-bombing” our sites);
- interfere with the use or enjoyment of these sites by others;
- introduce computer or web application code, including any viruses or malware which is disruptive or harmful;
- use software, devices, scripts, robots or any other means or processes (including crawlers, browser plugins and add-ons or any other technology) to scrape the sites or services or otherwise copy data from the sites or services; or
- attempt to override any security feature or bypass or circumvent any access controls or use limits of the sites or services or gain unauthorized access to our computer systems, servers, networks, databases, software, hardware or equipment, including: user-restricted areas of these sites; logins and passwords of others; or personal information and personal accounts of others.

All content and materials on these sites, including without limitation text, data, information, images, illustrations, audio clips, video clips, graphics, software, code, displays, the sites' “look and feel” and communications are protected by Canadian copyright, trademark, competition and other laws of Canada and other nations and is owned and controlled either by Elections Ontario, or by third parties that have licensed their material to Elections Ontario. Content and materials from these sites or services may not be copied, downloaded, reproduced, republished, uploaded, posted, transmitted, sold, used to create derivative works, reverse-engineered, decompiled, disassembled, adapted, translated or distributed in any way, except for personal use, without the prior written consent of Elections Ontario. Modification of content and materials or use of content or materials for any purpose other than your own personal, non-commercial use is a violation of copyright and other intellectual property rights of ours and other third parties and is strictly prohibited. The use of any such content or materials on any other site or networked computer is prohibited.
The trademarks, logos and service marks on this site are registered and unregistered marks of Elections Ontario, or third parties that have licensed the use of such marks to Elections Ontario. Nothing on our sites grants any licence or right to use any marks displayed on the sites without the written permission of the owner of the mark. Misuse of the marks displayed on the sites or any other content on the sites is strictly prohibited.
Some assets are available for media use and may be used on a limited basis. Please credit Elections Ontario.

(2) The linked sites do not operate under Elections Ontario’s information privacy practices. When you click through to these sites, Elections Ontario’s information privacy practices no longer apply. We do not warrant that the operations of our sites or their contents will be uninterrupted, virus or error-free. Our sites, services, content and materials may include technical inaccuracies or typographical errors. We may make changes or improvements to the sites, services, content and materials at any time.
(1) In no event shall Elections Ontario’s officers, employees, independent contractors, workers, agents, service providers or suppliers be liable for any losses or damages whatsoever, including without limitation, direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, punitive, exemplary or other damages (without limitation to any loss of profit, costs, expenses, harm to business, business interruption, reputation, loss of information or programs or data, loss of savings, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill, loss of tangible or intangible property, legal fees or legal costs, or damages of any kind whatsoever), injury, claim, liability or other cause of any kind or character, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, fundamental breach, failure of essential purpose or otherwise or any other legal basis, arising out of or in connection with the Elections Ontario sites, services, materials, information or content, any linked site or linked social media platform (including without limitation any damages suffered as a result of the use, inability to use, failure of, or any omissions or inaccuracies in our sites, any linked sites or linked social media platforms, or any of the information, services or content available through the foregoing), even if Elections Ontario has been specifically advised of the possibility of such damage or loss, or if such damage or loss was foreseeable.
(2) You specifically agree that Elections Ontario is not liable for any defamatory, offensive, or illegal conduct of any user. If you are dissatisfied with the sites or any materials, information or content on the sites, or with any of the Terms of Use, your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue using the sites.
You agree at all times to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Elections Ontario, its officers, employees, independent contractors, workers, agents, service providers and suppliers (the “Indemnified Parties”) from and against any claims, losses, judgements, actions, proceedings, damages, costs and expenses (including without limitation, reasonable legal and other fees and disbursements) incurred by any of the Indemnified Parties due to or resulting from your actions, omissions and activities following your use or misuse of our sites, services, content, information or materials or otherwise arising from your breach of these Terms of Use or the documents it incorporates by reference, or your violation of any applicable law or the rights of any third party.
Elections Ontario reserves the right to supplement, remove or modify these Terms of Use at any time and from time to time without notice. Any changes will be effective upon the posting of the revisions on our sites. Please check our sites regularly for any changes. If you continue to use our sites following a change to these Terms of Use, you will be deemed to have accepted the changes. If any term or condition set out in this Terms of Use is held to be invalid, unenforceable or illegal for any reason, the remaining terms and conditions will continue in full force.
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada and deemed to be entered into by you in the Province of Ontario. You agree that any action at law or in equity arising out of or relating to these Terms of Use or your use of our sites, content, materials, information or services will be filed only in a court located in Ontario, Canada, and you hereby irrevocably and unconditionally consent and submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of such courts.
The headings used in these Terms of Use are included for convenience only and have no legal or contractual effect and shall not affect the construction or interpretation of these Terms of Use.

Our social media content aims to keep Ontarians informed about the electoral process in Ontario. This includes posts about voter registration, employment opportunities, voting opportunities and information about the events we administer. We follow accounts on social media channels that are relevant to our business. We may re-tweet and share content from other accounts that we think our followers might find interesting. Follows, re-tweets or post sharing do not imply endorsements of any kind.
As a non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, we do not respond to questions or posts that are outside of our mandate, or that take a stance on political issues or matters of public policy and/or other matters. We moderate our social media accounts to remove comments that are inappropriate, abusive, or partisan, in order for our account to act as a non-partisan source of information about the electoral process in Ontario.
