Additional property registration for municipal elections
If you or your spouse own or rent property other than your home address in Ontario, you may be eligible to vote in more than one municipal, district social services administration board and/or school board election.
Please note that the property must be personally owned or rented by you or your spouse. For example, if the property is owned by your business, or if your cottage is owned by a trust, then that property does not qualify for you to vote in that municipality.
Use Voter Registration to search for and/or add your additional property to the voters list for municipal elections.
To add or search for additional properties on the voters list, go to Voter Registration and select Add.
- In the pop-up below, select Add or Search in the box labelled "Add or search a property other than your home address".
- If your additional property is not found on the voters list, you will need to add it.
- Voter Registration will prompt you to first locate your home address on the voters list.
- Once you your home address is found on the voters list, you will be able to add your additional property.
- You will need to provide proof of ownership or tenancy in the name of either you or your spouse to add your additional property.
If you were unable to find your additional property on the voters list, you will need to add it:
- Voter Registration will prompt you to first locate your home address on the voters list
- Once you find your home address on the voters list, you will be able to add your additional property
- You will need to provide proof of ownership or tenancy in the name of either you or your spouse to add your additional property.
Eligible electors or their spouses who do not reside in Ontario but own or rent property in Ontario may vote in municipal elections as non-residents.
To search for and/or add your property as a non-resident:
- Go to Voter Registration and select Add.
- In the pop-up below, select Add or Search in the box labelled "Add or search a property other than your home address".
- On the “Your information” page, select Not a resident of Ontario but my spouse or I own or rent property in Ontario.
- If you are the owner or tenant, you will need to provide proof of ownership or tenancy. If you are the spouse of the owner or tenant, you will need to include one piece of Government-issued ID showing your name and proof of ownership or tenancy in your spouse’s name.
